  • ABOUT THIS SERVICE

Why ventilation matters so much

Cooking, showering and breathing all release moisture. A mechanical ventilation system extracts that air through vents in the kitchen, bathroom and toilet and carries it outside. If the unit is not working properly or the vents are clogged with dust, the moisture stays in the house. You can see this in mould in the bathroom and misted-up windows.

If you recognise any of these signs, your ventilation is probably not working properly:

  • Mould in the bathroom or on ceilings
  • Windows that are misted up in the morning
  • Vents with a grey or black ring of dust
  • A musty smell that lingers
  • A unit that hums, rattles or keeps getting louder
  • A unit from before 2010, which usually still runs on an AC motor

Cleaning is something you can do yourself

Clean the vents and grilles at least once a year with warm soapy water. Do not change the settings of the vents: they are adjusted for the whole house. Have the unit checked every two years and the extract ducts cleaned about every eight years.

What is included?

  • The labour of the tradesman
  • Disconnecting and removing the old ventilation unit
  • Fitting and connecting the new unit to the existing ducts
  • Setting up the speed settings and the controls
  • Advice on maintenance and cleaning the vents
  • No call-out charge within Almere
  • 1-year guarantee on the work carried out

Not included

  • The ventilation unit, vents and any controls
  • Heat recovery ventilation (HRV) and balanced ventilation
  • OUR SERVICES

What can we help you with?

New ventilation unit after the old unit was replaced

Replacing a ventilation unit

Replacing an old unit with an energy-efficient DC unit. It uses much less electricity, is quieter and often fits straight onto the existing ducts.

Ventilation unit during servicing and inspection

Ventilation unit servicing

Cleaning the unit and the fan, and checking the motor and the settings, so the unit runs quietly and extracts properly again.

Ventilation ducts while the ventilation system is being cleaned

Cleaning ventilation ducts

Over the years, a layer of dust and grease builds up in the ducts. Milieu Centraal, the Dutch independent advice centre on energy and the environment, advises having the extract ducts cleaned about every eight years. We clean the ducts for you, so the ventilation extracts properly again.

Ventilation vents after replacement and balancing

Replacing and balancing vents

New vents in the kitchen, bathroom and toilet, and rebalancing the ventilation so that every room gets enough air.

Controls and CO2 sensor for a ventilation system

Controls and CO2 sensor

A wireless control in the bathroom, or a unit that automatically speeds up when the humidity or CO2 level in the house rises.

Mould growth in a bathroom caused by damp problems

Mould in the bathroom?

If the mould keeps coming back while the ventilation is working properly, there may be a leak behind it. We can trace it for you.

The job turned out to be quite a bit bigger once he had assessed it. But he thought along with me and did a lovely job. Very professional and very friendly. I will definitely call again. Highly recommended!

A response within 5 minutes, at the door within a few hours. Thinks along with you and works really neatly. He even drove to the DIY store to get a special little extension piece so everything could be finished even better. I can truly recommend Mohammed, my best experience so far, and the bar is high.

Quick response and the job was done quickly and expertly. What I really appreciated was that afterwards I got a phone call asking whether everything had been done to my satisfaction, and saying I could always call if anything turned out not to be right - which was not the case.

  • FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about ventilation

Is your question not listed? Feel free to call or WhatsApp us, also outside office hours.

How much does a new ventilation unit cost?

We charge €181.44 incl. VAT (€149.95 excl. VAT) for the first hour on site and then €108.84 incl. VAT (€89.95 excl. VAT) per hour. Outside Almere, there is an added call-out charge of €42.35. Replacing a unit on the existing ducts is usually done within a few hours. On top of that comes the unit itself; the price depends on the type and the controls.

How do I know whether my ventilation unit needs replacing?

A unit that hums, rattles or no longer extracts properly is often worn out. According to Milieu Centraal, units from before 2010 usually still run on an AC motor; a new DC unit uses much less electricity.

How often should the ventilation be cleaned?

Clean the grilles and vents at least once a year. The unit needs servicing about every two years, and the extract ducts should be cleaned about every eight years. That is the advice of Milieu Centraal.

Can I switch the ventilation off at night?

Preferably not. Moisture and CO2 are released even while you sleep. Set the unit to its lowest setting at night instead of switching it off, and turn it up for a while after showering or cooking.

How do I know whether there is enough ventilation?

With a CO2 meter. According to Milieu Centraal, ventilation is good below 750 ppm, could be better between 750 and 1200 ppm, and the air is unhealthy above 1200 ppm. A humidity level between 40 and 60 per cent is good.

Can I replace a ventilation unit myself?

You can, but fitting it yourself sometimes voids the manufacturer's warranty, and the unit then has to be set up properly for the home. If you let us do it, you get a 1-year guarantee on the work.

Humming unit or mould in the house?

Send a photo of your ventilation unit and its rating plate via WhatsApp or give us a call. We will let you know whether servicing is enough or whether replacement is the wiser choice.
