When do sewer pipes need replacing?
Sewer pipes last a long time, but not for ever. Old pipes can sag, crack or come apart at the joints, and tree roots find their way in. Then unblocking only helps for a while: the blockage comes back, because the pipe itself is broken. We find out where the problem is and replace only the section that is no longer sound.
With these signs there is more going on than a blockage:
- A drain that keeps getting blocked again
- Sunken tiles or paving bricks above the sewer pipe
- Damp or a wet patch in the crawl space
- A sewer smell in the house or garden
- Gurgling noises from the toilet or drain
- A renovation where drains need rerouting
Look in the rodding point first
In Almere your own sewer pipe runs as far as the rodding point; after that, the municipal sewer begins. If the rodding point is full of water, the problem is probably on the municipality's side: report it first on 14 036. If it is empty, the problem is on your side and we can solve it.

How much does it cost to replace sewer pipes?
That depends on the length of the pipe, how deep it lies and what is on top of it. For this work we give you a quote in advance, after a look on site or based on photos. Small repairs are charged by the hour. We charge €181.44 incl. VAT (€149.95 excl. VAT) for the first hour on site and then €108.84 incl. VAT (€89.95 excl. VAT) per hour. Outside Almere, there is an added call-out charge of €42.35.
Who is responsible for the sewer: me or the municipality?
In Almere you are responsible for the sewer pipe on your own property, up to the rodding point. After that, the municipal sewer begins. If the rodding point is full of water, report the problem to the municipality first on 14 036. Outside Almere the boundary may be different; if in doubt, check with your municipality.
What is the difference between unblocking and replacing sewer pipes?
When unblocking, we remove a blockage from a pipe that is otherwise intact. If the drain keeps getting blocked again, the pipe has often sagged, cracked or been penetrated by roots. Then only replacing it solves the problem.
Does the whole garden have to be dug up?
No. We only dig where the pipe is broken or where the new pipe will go. We lift the paving bricks and tiles carefully and put them back afterwards.
How long does it take to replace a sewer pipe?
A short section of pipe can often be replaced within a day. A longer pipe or a lot of digging takes longer; you will hear this in advance. During the work you cannot use the drain for a few hours.
Can I have a drain rerouted for my renovation?
Yes. Let us know before the floor is closed up or the kitchen or bathroom is fitted. Then we lay the drain in the right place and with enough fall, so the water drains away properly.
