The first residents of Lelystad got their keys in the Zuiderzeewijk in 1967; neighbourhoods such as the Atolwijk and the Waterwijk followed in the seventies and eighties. Many of those homes have a back garden with room for an extension. And with a house of that age, an extension is often a good moment to tackle the kitchen, the pipes or the consumer unit as well.

Lelystad lies on the bed of the former Zuiderzee, about three metres below sea level, and the municipality lists subsidence as a local risk. That is why, for an extension, we first take a good look at the ground and the existing house before we decide on the foundation.
